About Me
I’m Jamie Shakotko, author of The Angry Daughter, a memoir about neglect, trauma, and breaking generational cycles.
For years, I believed anger was the story.
It wasn’t.
It was the symptom.
The real story lived underneath it: in the ways childhood shapes the adults we become. The relationships we choose. The boundaries we struggle to hold. The emotions we learned to hide. The patterns we unknowingly pass to our children.
That’s the conversation we’re having here.
This publication explores emotional neglect, family systems, trauma, healing, marriage, parenting, and the lifelong process of understanding ourselves with greater honesty and compassion.
I don’t write as a therapist or someone with all the answers.
I write as someone who has spent years asking better questions.
Questions like:
Why do some childhood experiences stay with us long after we’ve left home?
Why do we repeat patterns we promised ourselves we’d never repeat?
Why can love and hurt exist in the same family?
What does healing actually look like once the books are closed and therapy ends?
Some of my stories are deeply personal.
Others explore research, psychology, or the everyday moments that reveal how our past continues to shape us.
My hope isn’t that you’ll see yourself in my story.
It’s that you’ll begin to understand your own.
If you’ve ever sensed there was more beneath your reactions than anyone ever explained...
If you’ve wondered whether what happened to you “counts”...
If you’re determined to love your children differently than you were loved...
Welcome.
I’m glad you’re here.
Understanding isn’t about blaming.
It’s about finally making sense of ourselves.
